Welcome to TCEAFT

At Tetfund Centre of Excellence In Aquaculture and Food Technology (TCEAFT), we extend a warm and hearty welcome to all our visitors, partners, and stakeholders. Our mission is to be a driving force in the fields of aquaculture and food technology, and we are thrilled to have you with us on this journey.

Our Vision

TCEAFT aspires to be a world-class Centre of Excellence in Aquaculture and Food Technology. Our vision is set on the horizon of excellence, and every step we take is aimed at reaching and exceeding international standards.

OUR RESEARCH PLAN

Research students are expected to design their exper, collect data, analyse and submit thesis to the Centre.

The Centre will provide research facilities in the following areas:

  • Standard fish hatchery with flow through and water recirculatory systems.
  • Standard laboratory for nutrition studies
  • Fish culture facilities
  • Fish processing facilities.
  • Standard food science laboratory.

The Centre will collaborate with partner Universities, Industries and Research institutes in the areas of research interest.

OUR APPROACH

  • Teaching, research and collaboration with partner institutions and relevant companies will be undertaken by the Centre.
  • Research topics may be generated base on national interest and the need of aquaculture and related industries in food production and processing.
Funding will include support from TETFUND and contributions from farms and industries in collaboration with the Centre.
  • The centre intends to commercialize someone the research output to ensure sustainability.
  • The collaborating industries and research institutes will also benefit from the research findings.

EXPECTED IMPACT

  • Increase in fish production and supply through the provision of high quality fish seed, fish feed and standard management practices.
  • Value addition to fish and other food produce as well as improving the shelf -life and ensuring food security.
  • Availability of high quality and healthy food.
  • Improved skill of manpower in areas of aquaculture and food technology.

  • Branded farm produce will be made available by the centre for sales.

NATIONAL DEVELOPMENTAL CHALLENGE IN AQUACULTURE AND FOOD TECHNOLOGY

  1. Huge fish food supply deficit of over 1.5 million metric tons currently bridged by importation with dire consequences on foreign reserve.
  2. Fish supply from aquaculture is limited by supply of insufficient fish seed of low quality.
  3. Also there is supply of low quality fish feed at very high lost there by reducing returns to investment in aquaculture.
  4. High spoilage rate of fish due to poor handling, processing and storage technology.
  5. Poor application of research in the areas of food science to food processing and technology.

TRAINING PLANS

  1. The centre will take research students annually in the following areas:
    * fish breeding and genectics( 1 Ph.D and 1 post doctoral student).
    * fish nutrition ( 1 Ph.D student).
    * fish processing, packaging and utilisation ( 1 Ph.D student).
